What size gas geyser do I need?

The size of your geyser is determined by the outlets (or combined outlets) water flow rate.

What is water flow rate? This is how much water per minute will be release by either your tap, mixer or shower-head? You can calculate this by doing the bucket test.

Once you have determined each outlet’s water demand, you can combine the demands and work out exactly what your total usage would be. If you slow down your flow rate (smaller shower head) you can reduce your flow rate demand.

THE BUCKET TEST
  1. 1. Run the cold water tap of the shower, bath or basin into a bucket for 1 minute. Run the cold water at the flowrate/ water pressure that you normally use
  2. 2. Measure how many liters you have in the bucket.
  3. 3. This calculates the flow rate of X litres/min.
  4. 4. This determines the water demand but you need to choose 1 size up. For example if your demand is 8L/min then you will need a 10L/min geyser

This is the most important to choose a larger flow rate than your exact demand because the cold pipes will cool down the water and you will experience heat loss.
