Gas geyser installation FAQs

Your gas geyser must be installed by a gas installer registered with SAQCC. It’s illegal to install one yourself. We also recommend a registered plumber for the water connections. Send us your details and we’ll connect you with a registered installer in your area who has been trained on the Dewhot range.

Gas installation and a Certificate of Compliance usually cost R2,500–R5,000, plus R2,500–R5,000 for plumbing. The price depends on where your geyser is installed and how far the gas and water pipes need to run. Indoor installations generally cost around R1,000 more because they need a flue and ventilation.

You’ll also need filled gas bottles: a 19kg bottle costs around R1,300–R1,400, and a 48kg around R2,800–R3,200.

These prices exclude the geyser.

Prices are a guide only, based on typical installations in September 2026, and may vary. Your installer will confirm a final price before any work starts.

A straightforward outdoor installation usually takes about half a day to a day. Indoor installations, which need a flue, and jobs with longer pipe runs or new plumbing can take longer. Your installer will give you a time-frame with your quote.

As early as possible. Planning for gas during the early stages of your build makes it much easier to incorporate the necessary gas lines, appliance locations and installation requirements.

Avoid leaving it until the final stages of the build. Early planning gives you more flexibility and can prevent unnecessary changes later.

Yes. Your registered gas installer issues a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) once your geyser is installed, confirming it’s safe and legal to use.

Your CoC is required for:

  • a valid Dewhot warranty
  • insurance claims
  • selling your house

Yes. Dewhot gas geysers can be installed anywhere in South Africa, including coastal and windy areas, with the right protection. Our coastal range keeps your geyser running reliably and helps it last:

  • Weather box: a galvanised steel cover that shields your geyser from wind, rain and salty sea air
  • Cyclone flue and cowl: keeps wind and rain out of the flue, so your geyser runs steadily in stormy weather
  • Tectyl treatment: a protective coating that guards against corrosion near the sea

Your installer can recommend the right combination for your home. Regular servicing keeps your geyser in top condition.

Indoor installation

Only gas geysers designed for indoor installation can be installed indoors. They must have a flue to expel the combustion gases, and the room needs proper ventilation.

Dewhot indoor models:

  • Fan Forced: the 20L room-sealed model
  • Constant Temperature: the 12L
  • Eco-Flow Low Pressure: the 5L, 8L and 12L

Outdoor installation

All four Dewhot types can be installed outdoors, protected by a weather box.

Your registered gas installer will confirm the right position for your home and issue the Certificate of Compliance.
